The light fitting nicknamed Käsikranaatti (Hand Grenade) was first used in the building constructed for the Finnish Engineers’ Association (the Insinööritalo) and in the council chamber at Säynätsalo Town Hall. The fitting used in both buildings has a shade in the form of an un-perforated cone, broken by perforations at the bottom edge that filter the light. The fitting was thus intended to act as a spotlight giving light in a downward direction. In the version that was manufactured as a standard product, the perforations at the bottom were replaced with a removable brass ring (A 110).
